Investment in Training and Tooling

An interesting article  published by The IMI (The Institute of the Motor Industry), this month, shows the Automotive Sector has the second highest vacancy rates across all sectors in the UK with 1 in every 100 vacancies unfilled. This is only behind Accommodation and Food Services sector which was so impacted by Brexit and Covid.

Automotive is experiencing the highest vacancy rates in 21 years.

We fully support and encourage recruitment to the Bosch Apprenticeship Scheme to try and bridge the gap, where young people are not coming into the industry. We currently  have another candidate on the Scheme at present.

Our previous candidate completed the Apprenticeship Scheme in April 2023, six months earlier than expected. He is now on the Bosch Diagnostic Technician pathway for further qualifications. He was shortlisted for the IMI World Skills Competition in May 2023 and competed alongside candidates from across the UK. Over two months 84 competitorswere marked on 468 tasks, supported by a team of 24 volunteer judges, all to find the top six in each stream of the Top New Talent in the sector.
He reached the final 30 which is an impressive performance.

The UK has 42,400 technicians qualified and trained to work on electric vehicles – just 18% of the total workforce.

We are proud that we have three technicians qualified to diagnose, repair, service and maintain electric vehicles at Broadstairs MOT Centre. We are also a member of Bosch Car Service Network EV Concept and HEVRA (Hybrid & Electric Vehicle Repair Alliance).

In regards to ADAS qualifications (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), by the end of 2022 there were just 3,000 qualified ADAS technicians.  By 2024, it is predicted the UK will need 39,000 qualified techs.

We have two qualified ADAS technicians at Broadstairs MOT Centre.

Industry predicts that there will be an increase in demand for technicians with data-related skills – approx 5,400 by 2024.

We are committed to training and evolving our technicians and business. In the first six months of 2024, we have two technicians booked to attend 13 in-person courses between them – covering a variety of Bosch, IMI Accredited training programmes, including:

* Vehicle Networking Systems

* Emissions Analysis

* Advanced Engine Management

*Airbag and Supplementary Systems

* Direct Injection Systems etc

There are also three online courses currently booked.

Our Senior Tech has also completed an online Tesla training course this year.

In 2023, staff attended  14 courses, eight online courses and we upskilled another technician to a qualified MOT tester.

We also invested in a bespoke ramp, and Hofmann Sphere 3D Four-wheel Alignment tool, which boasts the latest technology.

As a local business this is significant investment in training and necessary tooling to provide staff and customers with the relevant skills and confidence to undertake all manner of works.

We pride ourselves on being a family-run business and member of the Bosch Car Service Network that continues to invest and learn; and teach.

Broadstairs MOT Centre is so much more than MOTs!

Main Dealer Tooling

Our highly skilled technicians have recently completed training on diagnostic tooling for VW and Audi Group (VAG).

Training facilitated by Maverick Diagnostics and course tutor Jon Morgan, offered invaluable knowledge on how to accurately diagnose faults on VAG vehicles using genuine main dealer tooling and diagnostic software.

VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda, Bentley and Lamborghini customers now have the convenience of main dealer diagnostics on their doorstep. We are a proud independent garage that delivers honest, personal, customer service.

Continuous investment in training, tooling and software has led to a highly regarded reputation in Thanet, and the surrounding area, whereby local garages refer work on a weekly basis for diagnostics and repair. The recent training reinforces diagnostic fault-finding procedures; protocols, system navigation and known fault technical bulletins. Vehicles are equipped with greater computer technology than ever before and specialist tooling is essential in accurate fault-finding.

As a member of the Bosch Car Service network, staff are also trained to the highest standards in Diesel and Petrol engines; and are qualified to Level 2 & 3 in EV and Hybrid maintenance and repair, and Level 4 EV & Hybrid diagnostics, repair and how to safely test and replace components.

We have joined HEVRA

We are proud to announce that we have joined HEVRA – the Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Repair Alliance. We are now part of a network of approved independent garages that offers servicing, repair and maintenance of Electric and Hybrid vehicles. Staff are trained to IMI-approved Level 3 & 4 in Diagnostics Testing and Repair of Electric/Hybrid Vehicles and Components.

If you have an EV or Hybrid, you can be confident our staff have the relevant qualifications and tooling to look after your vehicle. As HEVRA members, we have access to a wide range of resources and training to keep look after your vehicle. For more information, please call 01843 602190.

We are proud sponsors of the team and look forward to seeing the lads compete in Yorkshire later this year whilst on Tour. Many talented players have been selected for the Saracens & Kent Developing Player Programme for 2021, so it promises to be an exciting few months. Sport can transform lives with improved health & fitness, well-being and great comradery. Broadstairs MOT Centre is proud to contribute to grass roots sports. If your boys or girls fancy trying something new, then head to Thanet Wanderers RUFC on Sundays to see what it’s all about.

Minster FC

As proud supporters of Minster FC’s Under 14s youth team, Broadstairs MOT Centre would like to congratulate the lads on a stunning 2020-21 season that saw them crowned champions.

Due to the Covid pandemic, the nail-biting season ended later than usual but was worth the wait!

We were delighted to sponsor the drill tops for the season, and look forward to watching the team develop further as they move up to East Kent Youth Football League U15 Division 1.

Thanet Wanderer’s Kit Sponsorship

THERE’S scrum-thing dapper about the Under 13s squad of Thanet Wanderer’s RUFC this 2019-20 season.

The 30-strong team are looking sharp thanks to new hoodies and wet tops proudly sponsored by Broadstairs MOT Centre.

The new stash will help keep the lads and the coaching team warm and dry on pitches across Kent and south London as they attend fixtures and tournaments throughout the season.

We have proudly supported the successful youth team over the past five years with donations to help fund rugby tours in Holland and Belgium, as well as kit sponsorship.

The team are planning their next rugby tour for Yorkshire in May 2020 and are continuing to fundraise for the tournament.

Good luck lads!

Minster F.C, proudly supported by Broadstairs MOT Centre

KICKING off a new season in style are the latest recruits to historic local team Minster F.C, proudly supported by Broadstairs MOT Centre.

The former Thanet Hawks team was invited to join as the first Minster F.C Youth team the club has had in a number of years. With a change of name and new kits, the U13s squad are now on target for an exciting 2019-20 season in the East Kent Youth League.

Broadstairs MOT Centre has made a donation towards buying new goals which will hopefully prove lucky for the strike force of Minster Youth.

Having supported the team in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons when they were Thanet Hawks F.C, the Bosch Car Service garage is keen to continue its commitment to the local community, helping to invest in and inspire young people to work hard, stay focussed and keep fit.

Garage Director, Simon Hooper said: “I am keen to support young people to pursue their passion and hobbies in any small way I can. Providing a donation to Minster F.C’s Youth team is our way of giving something back to the community and acknowledging the hardwork and dedication of all those behind the scenes who make sure these boys can play football each week across East Kent.”

“Without the coaches and management team organising and running the team so well, these young lads would not be able to play nor benefit, from the social skills they are developing by attending training and matches. They are learning sportsmanship and discipline that is required to play and this will carry them through their teenage years.”

New flooring donated by Broadstairs MOT Centre

A BOXING gym is an upper-cut above the rest, thanks to new flooring donated by Broadstairs MOT Centre.

Garage owner Simon Hooper, made the donation and helped lay the flooring after seeing the positive benefit O’Neill’s Boxing Gym had on young people using its facilities.

Trainer John O’Neill set up the Ramsgate gym in the last few months with ambitions to inspire and focus young boys and girls and help improve their discipline and fitness.

The pair pulled no punches replacing the worn out, damaged carpet. The knock-out grey floor tiles have transformed the space which is used by both young people and adults each week and is more practical for users.

Simon said: “I have witnessed the time and effort John dedicates to training young people at the gym. Not only does he inspire them to train hard and have passion and focus for what they are doing but the boxing also helps instil discipline and helps them to grow in confidence. He inspires them and their parents with his determination and having overcome a traumatic brain injury himself, he is an inspiration to not let life get you down.

“I think what he does here is fantastic for the community and I am always keen to give back to people who are trying their best in the local area to inspire the younger generation and provide support. He has overcome adversity and is giving something back to the next generation.”

Father-of-two John (45), from Broadstairs, was boxing clever until a traumatic brain injury more than five years ago had a profound effect on his life and well-being. Until then he had spent more than 15 years training young boxers in Thanet and south London and ran boxing gyms in Birchington and Margate. But, following a life-changing bleed on the brain, John admits to feeling suicidal once he left hospital because of inadequate support and minimal rehabilitation.

His friends rallied around and encouraged him to return to training in a bid to improve his mental well-being. The gym was being used by another trainer who said John could use it to aid his recovery.

John said: “I had memory loss and was struggling with my own battles and anxiety. When I got myself better, I noticed there were many older men, my age, struggling themselves. So rather than return to training at a high level, like I was used to, I tried to come back into boxing to help people deal with their own problems, and bring people together as a collective group of guys. The other chap left and I took over. I saw men struggling with depression and anxiety and physical disability, and through my own struggle of recovering from a traumatic brain injury and navigating my way through life, I thought this place would help others.

“I started this gym to help those that are not as fortunate as ourselves. With some of the guys that came, their sons and daughters then wanted to come for the challenge and to train.

“It shows the young people that there are those who are doing good, even if the bigger society is not. The children who come here are well behaved and sadly, they don’t really get anything. If they were naughty then the ‘system’ helps them but this is a place that can inspire them and teach them discipline. It shows them that there are people who work hard and give their time for them for free and in years to come I hope they pay it forward too. They are sporty but coming here helps keep the mind active and focused and joins all different people together.” John and the friends who rallied around him in the early days of his recovery still use the gym as a place to catch up and be sociable.
