Dealer Level Diagnostics & Tooling Thanet at Broadstairs MOT Centre
With the latest training, technology and diagnostic equipment our team have the tools to assist you with all of your vehicle requirements.
The Automotive industry is changing and so are we…
With a world-wide drive for more economical vehicles and lower emissions, vehicles have never run at such high tolerances. Modern day vehicles have hundreds of sensors constantly reading and reporting back to the vehicle’s ECUs (Electronic Control Unit), and the diagnostic requirement is therefore significantly greater than the past. As technology and security advances the base requirement of equipment and expertise is that much higher to access manufacturer specific data, diagrams and programming protocols.
At Broadstairs MOT Centre, we are constantly investing in new equipment and training to ensure we continue to deliver a comprehensive service for all vehicles.

Pass-thru & Cloud based Diagnostics – We have the know-how!
The authorisation and equipment combination required to access brand specific diagnostic systems online is commonly known in the trade as ‘Pass-Thru’ – At Broadstairs MOT Centre we have everything in place to access these systems for many brands providing:
- Greater in-depth and more detailed diagnostic capabilities
- Programming capabilities
- Software updates
- & More!
Whilst highly capable, other market leading diagnostic tools (like Bosch KTS & Snap-On) don’t have the depth of data or authorisation for security related jobs on their own (such as key programming, and software updates). With our Pass-Thru set-up, as well as our existing knowledge and equipment we have full diagnostic capabilities – equivalent to the main dealer!
A recent example of the requirement for Pass-thru in our workshop: Citroen DS4 alternator not charging because it required a software update. We were able to carry out the update with our Pass-Thru set-up. Checking for Software Updates is becoming a priority when working through a diagnostic procedure.

Digital Service Records
Pioneered by Mazda, circa 2005, many manufacturers now use Digital Service Records (DSR/DSS) and now ‘stamping the book’ is digital. At Broadstairs MOT Centre we have access to the majority of manufacturer's Digital Service Records which allows us to: Log-in in to the manufacturer portal, view previous records and update services carried out by us, Access to greater detail on service intervals inc Cambelt, Gearbox Oil Changes, Haldex Oil Changes and more.

BMW Key Reader
Linking directly into the BMW KASIO system, this key reader allows us to view and update all service history and notifies us of areas that may need attention such as: Low battery, Coolant temperature high and any previous warnings logged in the vehicle. On BMW & MINIs this information is downloaded onto the key for easy access – Helpful especially if a vehicle is new to you or the service history is unknown.
We have the official Mercedes Xentry main dealer computer which offers the same access to software updates, technical bulletins and specifications as the manufacturer.

More About Diagnostics Broadstairs:
On a modern-day motor vehicle, there are hundreds of sensors constantly monitoring and reporting back to a vehicle’s ECU(s), also known as Electronic Control Units. From the bonnet to the boot, information is being communicated through the vehicle’s Central Area Network (CAN), which operates similarly to a human’s nervous system. The nerves (sensors) monitor and report when something is not correct or showing within the pre-determined parameters and this information is reported back to the brain (ECU). This short video explains more.
Often bringing on a warning light, when one of a vehicle’s sensors aren’t happy, means it’s time to book in with us. In some cases, the vehicle will put itself into a ‘restricted performance’ or ‘limp home mode’ to protect itself from further damage.
